Measures taken for food security
National Food Security Mission:
- Launched in 2007, it is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme.
- It aims to increase production of rice, wheat, pulses, coarse cereals and commercial crops, through increasing area under cultivation and productivity enhancement.
Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY):
- It was launched in 2007, and allowed states to select their own agriculture and allied sector development activities as per the district/state agriculture plan.
- It aims at making farming a remunerative economic activity through strengthening the farmer’s effort, risk mitigation and promoting agri-business entrepreneurship.
- Major focus is given on pre & post-harvest infrastructure, besides promoting agri-entrepreneurship and innovations.
electronic National Agriculture Market (eNAM):
- National Agriculture Market (eNAM) is a pan-India electronic trading portal which networks the existing APMC mandis to create a unified national market for agricultural commodities.
The National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013:
- It legally entails, up to 75% of the rural population and 50% of the urban population to receive subsidized food grains under the Targeted Public Distribution System.
Ration Mitr:
- It is a common facility to register names in ration cards launched on pilot basis for 11 States and Union Territories. This software has been developed by the National Informatics Centre.
