In a bid to enhance marketing support for products created by women belonging to Self-help Groups (SHGs), the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojna- National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) has introduced the eSARAS mobile app which also serves as an additional platform for promoting and selling SHG products through e-commerce initiatives.
GS-02 (Government Policies and Interventions)
- The eSARAS mobile app plays a crucial role in empowering women entrepreneurs from SHGs. By providing them with a platform to market and sell their products, the app helps in boosting their financial independence and socio-economic status.
- It enables SHGs to expand their market reach beyond local boundaries and tap into a wider customer base. This, in turn, leads to increased income generation, improved livelihoods, and overall economic growth in rural areas.
- It leverages technology to bridge the gap between rural producers and urban consumers, fostering digital inclusion and connectivity. By embracing e-commerce initiatives, the app encourages the growth of online platforms for buying and selling SHG products, thereby creating a digital marketplace and promoting digital literacy among rural communities.
- eSARAS supports the idea of sustainable livelihoods by promoting traditional and indigenous crafts, handloom products, organic produce, and other eco-friendly items made by SHGs.
