Exercise Shakti
Context:
The 7th edition of the India – France Joint Military Exercise SHAKTI has commenced at Umroi, Meghalaya.

Key highlights:
- Scheduled from 13th to 26th May 2024, the Exercise is a biennial training event conducted alternatively in India and France.
- Previously, the exercise was held in France in November 2021.
- The Indian contingent, consisting of 90 personnel, primarily represents a Battalion of the Rajput Regiment, along with members from other arms and services. Additionally, observers from the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force will participate in the exercise.
- The focus of the joint training will be on operations in semi-urban and mountainous terrain. The objectives include achieving a high degree of physical fitness, refining drills for tactical level operations, and sharing best practices.
- Significance: The exercise aims to enhance inter-operability, camaraderie, and cooperation between the armed forces of India and France. This collaboration will further strengthen defence cooperation and bilateral relations between the two nations.
