India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS)
Context:
The Prime Minister launched India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
Main Highlights:
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor at Sahibabad RapidX Station in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
- He also flagged off the Namo Bharat RapidX train connecting Sahibabad to Duhai Depot, marking the launch of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) in India.
- It is the country’s first semi-high-speed regional rail service.
Delhi-Meerut RRTS Features:
- The train will have an operational speed of 160 km per hour.
- It also has a train attendant.
- The premium coach is spacious, and comfortable and is equipped with cushioned reclining seats with charging points for mobile and laptops provided at every seat.
About RRTS:
- It is a high speed, high capacity, comfortable commuter service connecting the regional areas which is different from the conventional railways.
- This provides a reliable and a comfortable regional travel at high speed.
- RRTS focuses on passengers looking to travel a relatively longer distance with fewer stops and at higher speeds unlike metro rails where the connectivity is within the city having short distances.
