About PAN 2.0
- PAN 2.0 is a revolutionary initiative aimed at streamlining taxpayer services.
- With a budget of ₹1,435 crore, it modernises the way PAN and TAN (Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number) are issued and managed.
What PAN 2.0 offers:
- Unified and Simplified Services
- All PAN and TAN-related services will now be available on a single portal hosted by the Income Tax Department.
- Existing fragmented platforms, including the e-Filing portal, UTIITSL portal, and Protean e-Gov portal, will be consolidated for ease of access.
- End-to-end services like PAN allotment, updates, corrections, Aadhaar-PAN linking, and e-PAN issuance will be handled seamlessly on this unified platform.
- Eco-Friendly and Paperless Processes
- PAN 2.0 focuses on digital convenience by enabling completely paperless procedures for PAN and TAN-related tasks.
- This transition not only saves time but also reduces environmental impact.
- Cost-Free and Faster PAN Issuance
- Free e-PAN services will be available, with digital versions sent directly to registered email addresses.
- Physical PAN cards, if required, can be obtained for a nominal fee of ₹50 (domestic applicants). For international delivery, applicants will bear additional postal charges.
- Enhanced Data Security
- A PAN Data Vault ensures the protection of personal and demographic data.
- The platform is built with advanced security measures and complies with global standards like ISO 27001 for information security.
- User Support Services
- A dedicated call centre and helpdesk will address user queries, enhancing the overall experience.
Changes for Existing PAN Holders
- Current PAN holders are not required to reapply under PAN 2.0.
- However, those wishing to update or correct their details can do so through the enhanced system.
The QR Code Feature
- PAN 2.0 upgrades the QR code system to dynamically reflect the latest details from the PAN database.
- It ensures authenticity and provides easy verification through a dedicated QR reader application.
- Older PAN cards without QR codes can be upgraded under both PAN 1.0 and 2.0 systems.
Global Standards for Seamless Services
- PAN 2.0 aligns with international best practices for tax compliance and governance.
- It simplifies processes with centralised databases, minimal documentation, and robust digital frameworks.
- In essence, PAN 2.0 is a leap forward for India’s tax and financial systems, making them more efficient, secure, and accessible. It empowers users with faster services while strengthening the country’s digital economy.
